Garuda Indonesia Unveils Pikachu-Themed Design to Attract Foreign Tourists

Garuda Indonesia is targeting an increase in the number of international passengers. The airline has launched a thematic livery for its Jet GA-2 aircraft, featuring a Pikachu thematic livery in collaboration with The Pokémon Company.

The design features Pikachu in a batik shirt on both sides of the aircraft, representing Indonesia’s rich culture, characteristics, and creative products.

The batik Pikachu will be applied to Garuda Indonesia’s Airbus A330-300 wide-body aircraft. It is planned to be officially operated in March 2025.

The launch of the Pikachu Jet GA-2 thematic livery design is part of the Pokémon Air Adventure program, a collaboration between the two entities, where Garuda Indonesia and The Pokémon Company strive to bring excitement and a different flight experience to Garuda Indonesia service users. Especially for Pokémon fans in Indonesia.

Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Setiaputra said in Jakarta on Friday night that the launch of the Pikachu Jet GA-2 livery thematic design is an ongoing initiative to meet the public’s enthusiasm in welcoming various interesting flight experiences through the Pokemon Air Adventure program.

“We want to have a livery design on a big plane so that it can fly internationally and attract tourists to Indonesia using that plane. Maybe he doesn’t know Bali and other places, but then he flies there, he knows Bali,” Irfan said, as reported by Antara.

With this thematic livery, Irfan hopes to attract foreign tourists, especially Pokémon fans, to visit various cities in Indonesia. As a result, more tourist destinations in Indonesia will be recognized by tourists.

This wide-body aircraft serves international flights to Japan (Tokyo), Australia (Sydney and Melbourne), Hong Kong, China, Saudi Arabia (Jeddah), and ASEAN countries.

Meanwhile, The Pokémon Company, represented by Susumu Fukunaga, plays a significant role in this partnership. They have committed to a five-year contract, during which they hope that the Pikachu Jet can be an opportunity for the world to know more about Indonesia and for Indonesians to meet interesting things from around the world.
