From Tirta Empul to Sumba: Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Journey Through Indonesia

Share:

Former football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently shared glimpses of his spiritual experience in Bali, Indonesia. The ex-AC Milan striker visited the famous Tirta Empul Temple in Gianyar Regency, where he participated in a traditional Balinese water purification ritual known as melukat.

Posting three photos on Instagram (@iamzlatanibrahimovic), Ibrahimovic wrote simply, “In the moment.”

The first photo shows him washing his body under the temple’s sacred fountains, while in the second, he is seen lowering his head beneath the flow of holy spring water.

The third photo captures him descending the temple’s staircase, dressed in a sarong, which is customary attire for visitors to Balinese temples.

His post quickly gained attention online, not only from fans but also from public figures.

The official Instagram account of Wonderful Indonesia, managed by Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, commented, “Welcome to Indonesia.” Actor Gading Marten, a known AC Milan supporter, also chimed in, saying, “Welcome to the Island of the Gods, perfect for you.”

Although Ibrahimovic didn’t specify the exact date of his visit, the post appeared on Friday, 1 August 2025, suggesting the visit took place just before. His spiritual stop in Bali followed his appearance in Hong Kong as part of AC Milan’s Asia-Pacific and Australia pre-season tour.

Since retiring in 2023, the 41-year-old has taken on a new role as senior advisor at RedBird, the investment firm backing the Italian club.

In Hong Kong, he was seen running with fans alongside fellow Milan legends Serginho and Alexandre Pato, and he gave interviews with local media outlets, part of Milan’s broader fan engagement efforts during the tour.

Zlatan Continues His Indonesian Journey in Sumba

After his time in Bali, Ibrahimovic continued his travels to Sumba in East Nusa Tenggara. A video circulating on Instagram, dated Saturday, 2 August, shows him warmly greeted by local residents as he exited a building and made his way to a bus.

The crowd enthusiastically called out his name, with several voices heard shouting, “Forza Inter!” A reminder of his successful stint with Inter Milan between 2006 and 2009, where he helped secure three consecutive Serie A titles.

Ibrahimovic, born in Rosengård, Sweden, has played for some of the world’s top clubs throughout his career, including Ajax, Juventus, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and both Inter and AC Milan.

Despite his current ties to AC Milan’s management, fans from all over clearly still remember his time at Inter fondly.

His Indonesia trip, blending cultural exploration with personal reflection, has captured the interest of both football fans and local communities. As always, Ibrahimovic remains a figure that bridges sport, culture, and global connection, even in retirement.
