Every Sip Tells a Story: Naaga Bar Launches Cocktail Collection Celebrating the Soul of Indonesia

Jakarta , July 2025 – Tucked away in the leafy corner of Menteng, Naaga Bar has always been more than just a place to drink. Last Friday, Naaga bar elevated its philosophy once again, hosting an intimate and immersive launch event for its latest collection: “Every Sip Tells a Story.”

It was a perfect rendition of combining modern mixology and cultural immersion. From the first step inside Naaga’s subtly lit interior, guests were welcomed and transported by the hospitality of Indonesian culture.

More Than a Bar

Since its opening, Naaga Bar has positioned itself as a cultural outpost for modern Indonesian identity.

With interiors that balance natural wood textures and contemporary design, the venue feels like a hidden upscale lounge and an intimate storytelling lounge.

Naaga’s ethos has always been rooted in redefining how we consume culture, quite literally. Through events, rotating menus, and sensory-driven experiences, Naaga offers a platform for reinterpretation: of flavours, of memory, of tradition.

And their new cocktail release is no exception.

The New Selection: When “Every Sip Tells a Story”

The new twelve-drink collection is structured around four narrative pillars, each reflecting a unique dimension of Indonesia’s soul:

Indonesian Wonders

Inspired by the archipelago’s majestic natural beauty, these cocktails evoke the power of landscapes. Standout drink “Jayawijaya”, named after Papua’s snow-capped peak, combines buah merah with alpine herbs and a smoky, earthy gin — bold, cold, and unexpectedly grounded.

Roots & Rituals

This pillar pays tribute to local customs, ceremonies, and indigenous wisdom. “Golden Jamu Jago” plays with turmeric, tamarind, and citrus-infused rum; a modern take on the age-old jamu tradition that balances warmth with bite.

Indonesian Company

Referencing Indonesia’s historical evolution and national character, cocktails in this section are heavier, more introspective. “Kretek Agus Salim” is a standout: crafted with clove-spiced bourbon and smoked sugar, served under a cloche of aromatic kretek vapour;  both nostalgic and arresting.

Untold Stories

This pillar uncovers forgotten voices and lesser-known tales. “Isle of Dragons”, named after the mythical Komodo region, brings together jagung bose syrup, spiced rum, and a house-made ginger tincture, fiery, fermented, and playful.

The collection leans heavily into local ingredients: Gayo coffee, soda Badak, jagung bose, and spices often overlooked in mainstream menus. But what truly sets it apart is how each cocktail carries a story, not just in flavour, but in origin. Each glass is served with a miniature card detailing the inspiration behind the drink: from tribal rituals to national milestones.

An Evening of Story and Sensation

Led by head bartender Rio Santoso as the head mixologist, Naaga hosted short live showcases throughout the night, walking guests through the preparation, ingredients, and inspiration behind selected hero drinks. With each pour, Rio reminded us that “these cocktails are not just liquid — they’re living memory.”

Adding to the ambience were visual installations inspired by the different regions featured in the cocktails, subtle lighting cues, and a curated playlist that shifted in tone depending on the flavour profile being served. A sensory map was also provided, guiding guests through flavour notes like a museum guide through a gallery.

Rediscovering Indonesia, One Sip at a Time

Naaga’s latest campaign brings us to “return to meaning”. They’ve taken what you know, what’s familiar, and twisted it, revealing something fresh. In today’s crowded cocktail world, that’s rare.

Guests stuck around, not just for another drink, but to savour what they were tasting. They asked questions, some even reaching for seconds. The verdict was clear: “I’ve never tasted anything like this.”
