“This is an earthquake on the Indo-Australian plate or a Benioff earthquake. The ground motion is indeed stronger than earthquakes of its class from other sources,” wrote the Head of the Earthquake and Tsunami Center BMKG, Daryono, via his Twitter account, Thursday (8/12/2022).

“Not the Cianjur shallow crustal earthquake, not even the megathrust earthquake,” he added.

It is known that the earthquake was also felt in Jakarta and its surroundings. Several residents confessed that they felt the earthquake.

“While working, suddenly the computer was shaking, I thought it was a headache due to the night shift, it turned out to be a real earthquake,” said a netizen on Twitter.

“I’m in Jakarta and I really feel it,” said another resident.
