Blok M Hub, located in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, is drawing renewed attention following the revitalisation of the Blok M terminal and mall area.
Once quiet due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the area is now coming back to life with a vibrant mix of public activities and improved infrastructure.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has reorganised the Blok M precinct into an integrated urban activity centre, designed to better accommodate the movement of residents and visitors. Clear signage reading ‘Blok M Hub’ welcomes those entering from Jalan Panglima Polim or exiting the nearby MRT station.
The area, also connected to the TransJakarta network, now features tidy walkways and several public facilities.
Small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are also benefitting from the transformation, with a number of local tenants operating beside the recently improved Martha Christina Tiahahu Literacy Park.
Blok M remains a well-known culinary hotspot in South Jakarta. Visitors flock to sample a wide array of popular dishes, from street-style gultik to dim sum. Its cafes are a draw for both casual meetups and remote work sessions, with many establishments located conveniently near the MRT station.
From intimate date spots to ‘Instagrammable’ interiors, Blok M continues to serve as a versatile hangout destination.
The underground area on the left side of the terminal, previously quiet and underutilised, is showing signs of revival.
The architecture of the area has been updated, and cultural features such as Betawi-inspired decorations, including coconut flower motifs and iconic ondel-ondel figures, now complement the aesthetic.
Several food and beverage stalls have resumed operations in the surrounding alleys, contributing to a livelier atmosphere.
The revitalisation has been well-received by locals, many of whom welcome the improved accessibility and renewed sense of energy in the area.
Blok M Hub Officially Inaugurated by Governor Pramono Anung
On Saturday 24 May 2025, Governor Pramono Anung officially inaugurated the Blok M Hub and simultaneously launched a series of events to mark the lead-up to Jakarta’s 488th Anniversary. The ceremony was held at the Literacy Park in Blok M, South Jakarta.
Blok M Hub represents the city’s effort to breathe new life into an area that had seen reduced activity during the pandemic. In his speech, Governor Pramono stated:
“We really want to make Blok M Hub a hub that lives 24 hours.”
He explained that Blok M was chosen due to its well-established infrastructure and longstanding popularity among Jakarta residents.
The revitalisation is supported by improved public transport, including the launch of new TransJabodetabek routes. Two routes: Alam Sutera–Blok M and PIK 2–Blok M, have already begun operating, while two more are expected to be launched the following week.
The governor also highlighted plans to expand pedestrian access, aiming to enhance comfort and mobility for those commuting or spending time in the area.
“One of our priorities is to expand the pedestrian path, making it more comfortable for people moving through Blok M,” Pramono said.
Since its inauguration, Blok M Hub has become increasingly popular, particularly among young people and families.
With its blend of cultural elements, improved access, and commitment to urban renewal, Blok M Hub is well on its way to becoming a 24-hour activity hub in Jakarta.
