The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has strongly condemned the mass shooting that occurred at Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia, on Sunday, 14 December 2025. The incident has left multiple people dead and dozens injured.
In an official statement released on Monday (15 December 2025), the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its condolences to the victims and their families.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and we offer our prayers for those who were injured,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement quoted on X.
Australian police confirmed that the death toll from the shooting had risen to 16 as of Monday (15/12) morning. The figure includes one suspected shooter who was killed during the incident.
New South Wales (NSW) Police said in a post on X that 16 people had died and at least 40 others remained in hospital. Emergency responders transported at least 29 victims from Bondi Beach to nearby hospitals shortly after the shooting.
Bondi Beach is one of Sydney’s most visited tourist areas and is located in Australia’s largest city.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised members of the public who intervened during the attack. He described a man who apprehended and disarmed one of the suspected shooters as a “hero”.
Police later declared the incident a “terrorist incident”. Authorities also reported the discovery of a suspected improvised explosive device inside a vehicle near the beach that was linked to the deceased suspect.
Police Investigation Ongoing as Victims Identified
According to NSW Police, the shooting resulted in 16 fatalities and at least 43 injuries, including two police officers. Five of those injured were reported to be in critical condition.
Police said the victims ranged in age from 10 to 87 years old. Among those killed was a 10-year-old child identified as Matilda Poltavchenko. Authorities also confirmed that two rabbis were among the victims.
Australian officials said the investigation remains ongoing. Police are examining the sequence of events, the motive behind the attack, and the possibility of further threats.
Authorities have not released details regarding the nationalities of those killed or injured.
The Premier of New South Wales and the NSW Police confirmed that, as of 10:00 p.m. local time on Sunday, the situation was under control, but security measures remained in place.
Police urged the public to remain cautious and follow official instructions while investigations continue.
Indonesia Confirms No Citizens Affected, Urges Vigilance
The Indonesian government confirmed that no Indonesian citizens were affected by the shooting.
“The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that there has been no official confirmation regarding any Indonesian citizens affected by the incident,” the ministry said.
The Ministry added that it continues to coordinate closely with Australian authorities through the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney has urged Indonesian citizens residing in New South Wales to remain vigilant, avoid the area surrounding Bondi Beach, and comply with directions issued by Australian authorities.
