Bali’s Denpasar-Gilimanuk Route Diverted for One Month Due to Infrastructure Damage

Share:

The main Denpasar-Gilimanuk national road in Bali has been partially closed for a month following a road collapse near Bajera Market, Selemadeg District, Tabanan Regency.

A large hole has formed in the middle of the road, forcing the diversion of traffic, particularly affecting vehicles travelling to and from Gilimanuk Port.

I Nyoman Yasmara, Head of the National Road Implementation Unit Region III of Bali Province, confirmed that the collapse occurred following prolonged heavy rainfall from Sunday, 6 July to Monday, 7 July. The section affected is located in front of the Bajera Market.

“The government is currently undertaking the repair stage after the road collapse. The road repair work is estimated to be completed in the next month,” Yasmara said on Tuesday in Tabanan, as reported by Antara.

#jalanamblas #curahhujantinggi #denpasar #gilimanuk #jalandenpasaramblas #bali #rekayasalalulintas #fyp #tiktokberita #longervideos ♬ Minimal for news / news suspense(1169746) – Hiraoka Kotaro

According to Bali Police Traffic Director, Commissioner Pol Turmudi, the road failure was caused by the collapse of an underground culvert.

The culvert under the road could not withstand the swift flow of water. Coupled with the weight of heavy vehicles travelling on the road, the structure was unable to survive and became severely damaged,” he explained.

While repair works are underway, authorities have diverted traffic through alternative routes to ease congestion and ensure public safety.

Forces Diversion of Heavy Vehicles Through Northern Bali

Two-wheeled and light four-wheeled vehicles heading to Selemadeg have been redirected through a local road behind Bajera Market. However, heavy vehicles, including large buses and trucks, must take the longer route through Bedugul and continue north to Singaraja.

Vehicles travelling from Denpasar to Gilimanuk and vice versa are expected to follow the Singaraja-Bedugul route until further notice. Police and transportation officers are stationed along key points to guide drivers and monitor traffic conditions.

Adjustments have also been implemented at Gilimanuk Port and its counterpart in Banyuwangi. According to Turmudi, three-axle lorries are required to redistribute their loads onto smaller vehicles before being allowed to cross.

If the load has not been transferred, the vehicle must wait in the parking area until a smaller vehicle is available for load transfer,” he added.

Authorities are urging the public to remain patient during the repair period and comply with the designated traffic diversions. Both provincial road officials and the police are continuing to coordinate efforts to ensure the flow of goods and passenger traffic across Bali remains operational despite the disruption.
