The police arrested an Irish citizen with the initials MRM after did a hit and run a motorbike rider named Ni Wayan Madiani to death. The 36-year-old Irishman had fled after being involved in a fatal accident on Jalan Sunset Road, Kuta.

Denpasar Police Chief Kombes Bambang Yugo Pamungkas revealed that MRM was arrested in the Canggu Village area, North Kuta District, Badung, Bali. The Pajero car driven by MRM at the time of the incident was found at Bangsal Beach, Sanur, Denpasar.

Head of the Denpasar Police Public Relations Section AKP I Ketut Sukadi said the traffic accident occurred at 01.45 WITA, Thursday, 27th of July 2023. At that time, Madiani was hit by a Mitsubishi Pajero while riding a motorcycle.

Before crashing into Madiani, the car driven by the Irish citizen also hit a Yaris car with a plate number B 1526 TKW. Initially, the Yaris and Pajero cars moved south to north on Jalan Sunset Road.

Arriving at the intersection of Jalan Sunset Road-Jalan Kunti, the traffic light turned red. Then, the Pajero, driven by MRM, collided with the Yaris from behind.

MRM then drove the car backwards, then forward eastward. At the same time, Madiani crossed the road. Accidents are inevitable. “Then the Pajero car driven by the Irish citizen left the scene heading north,” said Sukadi.

According to Sukadi, Madiani died on the spot. The 50-year-old woman died from several injuries to her body. “(The victim) suffered head and leg injuries, body abrasions, and died at the TKP (crime scene),” added Sukadi.

A further direct investigation revealed that the Irishman was drunk when the fatal accident occurred.
