A privately owned fast boat sank in Mentigi waters, Batununggul Village, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency, Bali, Sunday, August 6th of 2023. The fast boat, Risnic, owned by a French citizen, was hit by the wave in the early morning hours.

Nusa Penida Police Chief Commissioner Ida Bagus Putra Sumerta said it was discovered that the fast boat capsised on Sunday morning, 6th of August 2023. The accident was allegedly caused by high tidal waves in the area.

“Since yesterday, the sea area of Nusa Penida has indeed been hit by quite high tidal waves. Apart from that, the wind was blowing hard; maybe that’s what caused the boat to become lopsided and sink,” said Sumerta on Sunday, August 6th 2023, afternoon.

Luckily at the time of the incident, there were no people in the fast boat. However, some of the equipments inside were damaged due to being submerged in seawater for quite a long time.

Nusa Penida Police personnel, assisted by the locals around the area, have pulled the fast boat to the beach. Meanwhile, the owner of the fast boat, a French citizen, is out of town.

“Currently, the weather condition in the waters of Nusa Penida are quite gentle, so the evacuation process is fairly easy, but the wind is still blowing quite hard,” added Sumerta.

The Klungkung Police advised all tourists to be careful while on vacation to Nusa Penida because the tides have recently been rising and have proven very dangerous for tourists’ safety. So that this kind of accident will not be happen again
