A 50-year-old Swiss national suffered a broken leg after falling into a storm drain in the Sunset Road area of Seminyak Village, Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, on Friday night (August 7, 2026).

The victim, identified as Robert, fell into the drain near the Grand Seminyak Hotel at approximately 9.50pm Central Indonesian Time (WITA). Due to the injury, he was unable to get out of the drain without assistance.

The incident prompted a response from the Badung Regency Fire and Rescue Agency (Damkar), which deployed a rescue team to evacuate the injured foreign national.

Badung Fire Department Conducts 45-Minute Rescue

The rescue operation was led by Km Dedi Saputra, who coordinated personnel at the scene. Officers worked to carefully remove Robert from the storm drain while taking his injured leg into consideration.

Video footage uploaded to the Badung Fire Department’s official Instagram account, @damkar_kabupaten_badung, showed the rescue operation at the site. Several officers could be seen working together to lift the victim from the drain.

The evacuation took approximately 45 minutes before Robert was successfully brought to safety.

Following the evacuation, the victim received further medical attention appropriate to his condition. Details regarding the extent of his injuries beyond the reported broken leg and where he was subsequently treated were not immediately available.

The Badung Fire and Rescue Agency’s response was part of its emergency rescue duties across the regency, including assistance for residents and tourists involved in accidents or other emergencies.

Incident Reported by Local Driver

Initial information about the incident was reportedly provided by Rian, a 31-year-old Grab driver who was in the vicinity when the accident occurred.

The report allowed the emergency response team to be dispatched to the location and assist the injured foreign national.

The incident took place in Seminyak, one of Bali’s busiest tourism areas, where large numbers of residents, workers and international visitors travel through the streets and surrounding areas each day.

The operation has also attracted attention online after footage of the rescue was shared by the Badung Fire Department. Some netizens praised the response of the rescue personnel, particularly their efforts to safely evacuate the victim from the confined storm drain.

The Badung Regency Fire and Rescue Agency is responsible for responding to a range of emergencies across the region, including fires, accidents, rescue operations and situations requiring the evacuation of people from difficult locations.

In this case, officers remained at the scene until the Swiss national had been successfully extracted from the drain and could receive further medical assistance.
