A 53-year-old German national was found dead in the bathroom of his home in Sanur, Denpasar, with police suspecting electrocution as the cause of death.

The victim, identified as Patrick Paffrath, also known by the initials PP, was discovered at a residence on Jalan Kutat Lestari Gang Pelanggi No. 14, Sanur Kauh Village, South Denpasar, on Monday evening (25 May 2026).

Police sources said the victim had been living at the property with Yaowaret Prawat, also known as Yaya Kamari. Yaya is known publicly as the mother of the late Dali Wassink, the former husband of actress Jennifer Coppen, who died in a traffic accident in 2024.

Police Find Evidence Suggesting Electrocution

Officers from the Denpasar Police Identification Unit conducted a crime scene investigation after receiving reports of the incident.

According to Denpasar Police Public Relations Chief, First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, investigators found no indications of physical violence on the victim’s body. However, several findings at the scene pointed towards a possible electrocution.

“From the initial examination, there were no signs of violence on the victim’s body. However, there were burns on the back. Added to the traces of skin on the shower hose, it is strongly suspected that the victim died from electrocution,” he said on Tuesday (26 May).

Police also discovered skin tissue attached to the shower hose inside the bathroom, which investigators believe may be connected to an electrical fault.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim may have been electrocuted by a water heater that had experienced a short circuit. Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the incident.

Witness Found Victim in Bathroom

Based on witness statements, the incident occurred at around 6:00 pm WITA on Monday.

Yaya was reportedly the first person to discover the victim. According to police, both individuals had been using separate bathrooms at the time. After finishing her shower, Yaya noticed that PP had not come out of the bathroom and became concerned.

She repeatedly called out to him but received no response.

“The witness called out to the victim repeatedly, but there was no response,” said Adi Saputra Jaya.

When she entered the bathroom, she found the victim lying face down and unresponsive. Panicked by the situation, she sought assistance from nearby residents.

Several local residents subsequently helped move the victim from the bathroom to a bed inside the house. During the evacuation, one resident reportedly experienced an electric shock after touching the shower hose, further strengthening suspicions that an electrical malfunction had occurred.

Police officers later arrived at the scene and carried out an investigation. The victim was found unclothed and showing signs of rigor mortis.

The body was transported by ambulance from the Denpasar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to Bali Mandara Hospital for medical examination. Following an assessment by medical personnel, the victim was formally declared dead.
