The incident involved the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train and a Cikarang-bound Commuter Line service. It occurred at around 9:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time on Monday, April 27, 2026.

Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency, Air Marshal Muhammad Syafii, stated that all fatalities were adult women.

“I saw that there were no child victims, all of them were categorised as adult women,” he said during a press conference at East Bekasi Station on Tuesday, April 28.

Authorities completed the evacuation process on Tuesday morning. Syafii confirmed that all victims had been transported to hospitals for identification.

“At 8:00 a.m. WIB, the evacuation operation was completed. Our entire SAR team has returned to their respective home bases. I can confirm that we have found no victims,” he said.

Circumstances of the Incident

Initial information indicates that the commuter train may have struck a taxi at a railway crossing before the collision with the long-distance train. Authorities have not released further details on the sequence of events.

Witness accounts circulating on social media suggest that many passengers were returning home from work at the time of the incident. Reports also indicate that the front of the long-distance train struck the women-only carriage of the commuter train.

In addition to the fatalities, dozens of passengers were injured and are receiving treatment at hospitals in the Bekasi area. Authorities reported that all 240 passengers on board the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were unharmed.
