The roof of Boarding Lounge Gate 7 at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport collapsed on Monday afternoon (6 April 2026) following heavy rainfall. No casualties were reported.

According to reports, water initially dripped from the ceiling before part of the roof gave way. Passengers in the surrounding area moved away from the location as the incident unfolded.

A video of the collapse circulated on social media after being uploaded in many social media account. The footage showed water pouring from the ceiling and disrupting passenger movement in the boarding area.

Flight movements affected during adverse weather

Heavy rain, accompanied by potential windshear, also affected flight operations at the airport. Several flights experienced disruptions, particularly during the landing phase.

Yudistiawan, Assistant Deputy for Communication and Legal Affairs at the airport’s branch office, confirmed the incident and outlined its operational impact.

“Based on data from the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC), 12 flights were diverted to other airports, 14 flights underwent holding procedures, 13 flights performed go-arounds, and one flight returned to the apron (Return to Apron/RTA),” he said, as quoted from MetroTVNews.

He added that safety and security remained the primary considerations in all operational decisions.

“Airport personnel are monitoring all facilities, including building infrastructure, 24/7. Therefore, if any potential disruptions are detected, the surrounding area will be cleared of passengers and airport workers to minimise the impact,” he said.

Airport confirms brief disruption and swift response

Airport authorities stated that the disruption was brief and quickly brought under control. Immediate measures were taken to secure the area and restore normal conditions.

“The disruption to one point on the roof lasted approximately five minutes. Airport operational personnel immediately took action, including cleaning and demarcating the affected area, so the situation could be brought under control quickly,” Yudistiawan said.

He confirmed that repairs and cleaning had been completed shortly after the incident.

“When the breach occurred, we received information that there was a leak in the ceiling near Gate 7 of Terminal 3 International. We immediately took steps to repair the situation,” he said.

“First, we demarcated the area, then cleaned the area, and now there are no more leaks and the location is clean,” he added.

Yudistiawan stated that airport operations continued as normal following the incident.

“At Terminal 3, the roof collapse has not affected operations. So operations are running normally and smoothly,” he said.
