Indonesia will host the opening round of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2026 for the first time, with Bali selected as the official venue.
The competition will take place from 20 to 23 May 2026 and mark the start of the new season, where athletes begin their campaign for the prestigious King Kahekili Trophy.
According to an official statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday, Bali was selected for its striking natural setting and rich cultural heritage. Both elements reflect the spirit of cliff diving, which combines technical skill with dramatic surroundings.
The event will feature two iconic locations: Kroya Waterfall in Buleleng Regency and the T-Rex cliff at Kelingking Beach in Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency.
These sites offer a mix of natural beauty and technical challenge, providing a unique stage for the world’s top divers.
Iconic Locations Set the Stage
Kroya Waterfall, known for its clear pools and rocky cliffs, offers a rare freshwater setting. Meanwhile, the T-Rex cliff at Kelingking Beach provides a dramatic ocean backdrop, with divers leaping directly into the Indian Ocean below.
These locations will challenge athletes both physically and mentally. Precision, timing, and control are essential, especially in natural environments where conditions can change quickly.
A total of 24 athletes will compete in Bali, including 12 men and 12 women from countries such as Australia, the United States, Canada, France, Romania, and Mexico. Each diver will perform complex acrobatic manoeuvres from extreme heights, aiming to impress judges and secure early championship points.
Male athletes will dive from 27 metres, while female athletes will jump from 21 metres. These heights are nearly three times higher than Olympic diving platforms. Divers can reach speeds of around 85 kilometres per hour before entering the water.
Athletes Ready for a Unique Experience
Seven-time world champion Rhiannan Iffland said Indonesia offers something different from other locations on the tour.
“Red Bull Cliff Diving has taken us to exotic waters around the world. Indonesia not only boasts stunning panoramas but also a culture that will enrich our experience,” said Iffland in an official statement.
Her comment reflects the appeal of Bali, which blends natural landscapes with cultural depth. For many athletes, competing here is not just about performance, but also about experiencing a new environment.
Each dive will be evaluated by judges based on execution, difficulty, style, and entry into the water. Clean entry and precise form can make the difference between winning and losing valuable points.
