Murasaki Izakaya is all about enjoying food in a warm, social setting. For around 53 years, Murasaki has been the place for Japanese professionals to relax and enjoy good food and drinks.

This kind of experience is now available in Jakarta. Helmed by chef Makato Kamiyama, this is your go-to for a Japanese after-work escape in Jakarta. When you walk into the restaurant, the instant soft lighting and natural wood interior make you relax.

Founded in Japan in 1973, Murasaki Izakaya is a well-known icon of traditional izakaya culture and the originator of chūhai, a light shōchū-based drink that has become one of Japan’s most popular casual beverages.

For more than five decades, Murasaki has served as a welcoming gathering place where Japanese professionals unwind after work, socialise, and enjoy comforting food and drinks in a relaxed setting.

That signature experience has now arrived in Jakarta at Murasaki Izakaya Arden Groove Mega Kuningan. Designed as an after-work retreat, the space blends contemporary design with classic izakaya elements, featuring warm lighting, natural wood accents, and a communal layout that encourages connection.

Food That You Should Try

The menu showcases a range of izakaya favourites, from charcoal-grilled yakitori and expertly prepared grilled dishes to premium fresh sashimi, complemented by Murasaki’s signature chūhai, along with a curated selection of sake and Japanese highballs.

As a corporate slave (dare to say it to myself), it’s an all-occasion type of place, with various seating areas.

In their opening days, Murasaki celebrate it with a special Bluefin Tuna Cutting Show. This is a rare, one-of-a-kind Japanese culinary performance. During the showcase, guests were treated to a 45-minute cutting show on 92 kg bluefin tuna.

The process begins by cutting the tuna’s body at the bottom to open the abdominal wall without damaging the internal organs. The three most common cuts of tuna are akami, chutoro, and otoro.

What’s more surprising is that the guests are able to eat some of the cut of the tuna. The chef processes the numerous cuts into a delightful menu, such as Nigiri Sushi, Grill Tuna, Maguro Carpaccio, Tuna Yakitori, Nakochi and Sashimi Tuna Platter.

Best eaten with Murasaki’s celebrated chuhai, a popular Japanese canned cocktail, with the name being an abbreviation of “shochu highball”.

Located in Mega Kuningan, Murasaki Izakaya is set to become a new culinary destination, you never experienced it before!
