Jakarta Sets Eight Entertainment Stages for New Year as Fireworks Discouraged

The Jakarta Provincial Government will prepare eight entertainment stages for the 2026 New Year’s Eve celebrations. The stages will be located across several key areas of the capital, including FX Sudirman, Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK), and Kota Tua.

Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno confirmed the plan on Sunday, December 28, 2025, during an event at PAM Jaya Corporate Learning in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.

“We’re building eight stages, from GBK at FX Sudirman to Kota Tua. So, where is d’Masiv, and where are the others? If you need information, please join us during the dress rehearsal,” Rano said, as quoted from Kompas.com.

He added that several musicians are scheduled to perform at different locations, including the band D’Masiv. However, the government has not yet released the full performance schedule to the public.

The eight designated celebration locations across Jakarta are:

  1. Lapangan Banteng
  2. MH Thamrin area
  3. Sarinah
  4. Bundaran HI
  5. Dukuh Atas
  6. Semanggi
  7. SCBD area
  8. FX Sudirman

Fireworks Discouraged Across Public Venues

The Jakarta Provincial Government has asked shopping centres, hotels, and event organisers not to set off fireworks during New Year’s Eve celebrations. The policy is part of efforts to manage safety and crowd control during the year-end period.

However, Rano acknowledged that the administration cannot fully prohibit residents from using fireworks.

“We distribute fireworks to agencies, but we can’t prohibit the public. Of course, we can’t enforce the rules for people at Monas or elsewhere not set off fireworks,” he said.

Rano also noted that Jakarta is not the only city implementing restrictions on fireworks during New Year’s Eve. He did not provide further details on enforcement measures or penalties.

Car-Free Night on Sudirman–Thamrin Corridor

In addition to entertainment arrangements, the Jakarta Provincial Government will implement a car-free night on New Year’s Eve. The policy will affect the Sudirman–Thamrin corridor.

Car-free night will be enforced from the evening of Wednesday, December 31, 2025, until the early hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Traffic along Jalan Sudirman and Jalan MH Thamrin will be closed during this period.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have prepared traffic management measures to anticipate congestion around the affected areas.

No Entertainment Stage at Monas

Unlike previous years, the Jakarta Provincial Government will not provide an entertainment stage at the National Monument (Monas) for New Year’s Eve.

Monas will only feature video mapping projected onto the monument, with no live performances or additional entertainment activities.

“Of the main locations that have long been a tradition in Jakarta, some have been reduced, including Monas,” Rano said.

Meanwhile, the entertainment stage at the Bundaran HI will serve as the main focal point of the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
