Jakarta Lifts Odd-Even Traffic Rule for Christmas

Jakarta Lifts Odd-Even Traffic Rule for Christmas, 25–26 December

The Jakarta Provincial Government has confirmed that the odd-even traffic policy will be suspended during the Christmas holidays. The policy will not apply on Thursday and Friday, 25–26 December 2025, in line with Christmas Day and the national joint leave period.

The announcement was made by the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) through its official Instagram account, @dishubdkijakarta, on Monday, 22 December 2025. The decision forms part of traffic management adjustments for National Religious Holidays (Hari Keagamaan Besar Nasional/HKBN).

“In connection with Christmas 2025, the odd-even traffic policy in Jakarta will be suspended on December 25–26, 2025,” the agency wrote on their official account.

Dishub explained that the policy suspension refers to the Joint Decree issued by three ministries: the Ministry of Religious Affairs Decree No. 933 of 2025, the Ministry of Manpower Decree No. 1 of 2025, and the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Decree No. 3 of 2025. The decree regulates national holidays and collective leave arrangements for 2025.

The agency added that the decision is also consistent with Jakarta Governor Regulation (Pergub) No. 88 of 2019. Article 3 paragraph (3) of the regulation states that the odd-even traffic scheme does not apply on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays determined by Presidential Decree.

With the temporary abolition of the policy, motorists are free to use Jakarta’s main roads without odd-even restrictions during the two-day period. However, authorities stressed that road discipline remains essential during the holiday season.

The agency also reminded road users to obey traffic signs and follow instructions from officers on duty to help maintain smooth traffic flow throughout the Christmas holidays and joint leave period.

Christmas Events Across Jakarta During the Holiday Season

Alongside traffic adjustments, the Jakarta Provincial Government has also released a list of Christmas-themed events scheduled throughout December 2025 and early January 2026. The programme was published via the official @dkijakarta Instagram account.

The festivities began with Colossal Christmas Carols, held on 11 December 2025 at Bundaran HI. This was followed by Christmas Carols and Christmas Sales, which ran from 10 to 23 December 2025 across various locations in the capital.

On 20–21 December 2025, Creative Christmas Market and Jakarta Park Sound Competition took place at Lapangan Banteng, offering a mix of community activities and entertainment. A Community Service Visit was scheduled for 23 December 2025 as part of the city’s social outreach programme.

From 20 to 31 December 2025, residents and visitors could also attend the Christmas Market at Blok M Hub. Another highlight is the Jakarta Festival of Lights, which runs from 23 to 27 December 2025 at Bundaran HI.

On Christmas Eve, 24 December 2025, the Jakarta administration will conduct a Christmas Eve Church Visit to monitor worship activities and ensure security. The festive programme will conclude with a Joint Christmas Worship and Celebration on 9 January 2026 at JIExpo Kemayoran.
