Aldeguer Dominates as Marquez Crashes Early

Rookie Spanish rider Fermin Aldeguer claimed victory at the Mandalika MotoGP 2025, delivering a composed performance at the Mandalika International Street Circuit on Sunday (5 October 2025).

The race, held under hot and humid Lombok skies, began dramatically as reigning world champion Marc Marquez crashed on the opening lap following contact with Marco Bezzecchi at Turn 7.

The incident marked yet another setback for Marquez, who has never finished a race at Mandalika. Both riders were forced to retire immediately, setting an early tone for a race filled with surprises.

Pedro Acosta, who made an aggressive start and briefly led, ran wide on lap eight, allowing Aldeguer to seize control. Once ahead, the Gresini Racing rider maintained a steady pace and gradually extended his lead. Behind him, the fight for second place provided the day’s main tension.

Alex Marquez overtook Alex Rins on lap 23 to claim second position, but his momentum was short-lived. Acosta fought back in the final stages, regaining second place and leaving Alex Marquez to settle for third.

Aldeguer remained unchallenged at the front and crossed the line comfortably to secure his maiden MotoGP win at Mandalika.

Bezzecchi, who had started from pole, dropped to seventh before the collision with Marquez ended his hopes of a podium. Rins, after a strong early showing, faded in the closing laps and eventually finished sixth.

Rayyan Arkan and Record-Breaking Attendance Highlight Mandalika MotoGP 2025

Away from the main race, a viral moment captivated fans worldwide when young Indonesian racer Rayyan Arkan Dikha appeared on the Mandalika circuit.

The teenage “aura farming” rider drew attention for his confident demonstration on track, a symbolic moment that highlighted Indonesia’s growing motorsport culture.

His appearance, shared through MotoGP’s official social media channels including X, quickly amassed more than 17.4 million views. The segment was widely praised as a creative tribute to local talent and an engaging moment for fans at the venue.

The Mandalika MotoGP attracted massive crowds throughout the three-day event from 3–5 October 2025.

According to Indonesia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, the race drew over 140,000 spectators. “That 140,000 people watched is an achievement,” Erick said, as quoted by Kompas.com.

He credited the successful organisation to strong collaboration among the government, Pertamina, the tourism industry, and the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Government. Erick emphasised that the event’s success showed Indonesia’s capacity to host world-class sporting events.

“This achievement was the result of solid coordination between various parties, including the government, Pertamina, the tourism industry, and the NTB Provincial Government,” he said.

Beyond attendance figures, the event generated substantial economic activity for the local region. Erick stated that the economic impact reached approximately IDR 4.8 trillion, reflecting increased spending across hospitality, transportation, and tourism sectors.

He also expressed optimism about Mandalika’s long-term potential, comparing its development trajectory to that of Bali’s renowned Nusa Dua tourism area.

“If Indonesia successfully built Nusa Dua (Bali), surely it can be successful here too,” Erick added.
