As part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Godzilla franchise, Japanese entertainment company Toho Co. has released a promotional video featuring the iconic monster appearing across Southeast Asia, including Bali, and Indonesia.

In a 55-second video titled “70 Years of Godzilla: A New Roar in Southeast Asia”, Godzilla is seen looming near several famous landmarks across the region.

In Indonesia, the kaiju is depicted at Pura Ulun Danu Bedugul, one of Bali’s most iconic temples.

The video was officially released on 10 May 2025 via the Godzilla franchise’s YouTube channel. It opens with dramatic cinematic visuals showing Godzilla emerging from the waters of Marina Bay in Singapore, with Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, and the Singapore Flyer in the background.

It continues with scenes of Godzilla near Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Twin Towers and concludes with sweeping visuals of the terraced rice fields and sacred temple landscapes of Bali.

Produced by Toho, the tribute highlights the cultural impact of the Godzilla franchise across Southeast Asia, marking the first time the legendary character has been used in a regional homage of this kind.

“For the first time across Southeast Asia, the legend emerges in a powerful tribute to the fans who have kept its legacy alive,” said Toho in the video’s description.

“This special footage honours Southeast Asia, celebrating seven decades of Godzilla’s unstoppable journey through the region’s iconic landmarks.”

The inclusion of Bali in the tribute underlines the island’s continued prominence in global visual culture and entertainment marketing.

Lilo & Stitch Promotion Also Features Bali’s Nusa Penida

This is not the first time Bali has appeared in international film promotion. In a separate instance, scenes from Nusa Penida, specifically Kelingking Beach and Crystal Bay, are featured in footage for Disney’s upcoming Lilo & Stitch movie.

The promotional clip was shared on Walt Disney Studios’ official Facebook page.

“Who here can’t wait to meet Stitch? Just in time, he has just landed in Indonesia. Don’t forget to watch Disney’s #LiloAndStitch, in theatres May 21, 2025,” the studio wrote in its caption.

The footage showcases the natural beauty of Bali’s coastal destinations, drawing positive reactions from locals and travellers familiar with the region.

The film is set to be released in cinemas beginning 21 May 2025.

Both promotional efforts reflect a growing trend of incorporating Southeast Asian landscapes, particularly Bali’s recognisable features, into global entertainment campaigns, increasing the island’s visibility in international pop culture.
