JT reported the rape to the Bali Police. She was accompanied by her friend, KA. “Yes (rape), the victim (JT) is my friend,” KA told detikBali, Friday, January 3, 2025.

Kombes Pol Jansen revealed that the female victim from China who was vacationing in Bali was staying at Villa Casa de Kayla, Tumbak Bayuh, Mengwi Badung. The assault incident occurred on January 1, 2025, in the early morning.

For information, Chinese tourists are among the contributors to tourists visiting Indonesia. With a large population, at least they are always in the top 10 visits. In June 2023, for example, Chinese tourists were the 6th contributor to foreign tourist visits with a total of 105,037 in the first half of 2023.

This number has hardly declined in the years since, although foreign tourist arrivals are also dominated by tourists from Australia due to its proximity to Indonesia. With the bad incident of the alleged rape of a Chinese tourist that occurred on New Year’s Eve, it certainly tarnished Indonesia’s name in the eyes of the world.

Chronology of the incident

KA explained that the rape began when JT and six of her friends celebrated New Year’s Eve by watching fireworks at Nyang Nyang Beach. After the event, they looked for a motorcycle taxi to return to the villa on Jalan Labuansait, Pecatu, Badung.

Four of JT’s friends got a motorcycle taxi and left JT and her two other friends. JT then took the initiative to approach the motorcycle base (not Grab or Gojek which can be booked by apps), which was not far from the beach.

JT saw a motorcycle taxi driver who had just dropped off a passenger. The foreign tourist then asked the man to take him home.

Instead of being taken home, the driver took JT to Jalan Batu Kandik and raped her.

JT just surrendered for fear of being killed when strangled by the driver. After being raped, JT’s diamond bracelet worth IDR 81 million was taken by the motorcycle taxi driver.
