A chain reaction accident involving 16 vehicles, including a truck loaded with cardboard boxes, a minibus, and several private vehicles, occurred on the Cipularang KM 92 toll road towards Jakarta on Monday, November 11, 2024, at around 3 p.m.
The West Java Regional Police revealed that the successive collisions on the Cipularang Kilometer 92 Toll Road, Purwakarta Regency, were allegedly triggered by a heavily loaded truck that experienced blong brakes, causing it to hit more than five vehicles in front of it.
“The brakes failed because it was heavily loaded, so it hit the vehicles in front of it,” said West Java Police spokesman Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast in Bandung, as reported by Antara.
He said that West Java Police had deployed around ten personnel to handle the scene. They consisted of officers from the Traffic Police, West Java Police PJR, and Purwakarta Traffic Police personnel.

“We have deployed ten personnel to help evacuate victims and vehicles involved,” he said.
One of the videos circulating on social media shows footage of a car that wants to stop due to traffic jams. The weather conditions were rainy, the road was wet, and a truck was seen driving in the right lane of Cipularang Toll Road.
In the video, the truck appeared from the right side of the road shoulder, failed to reduce speed and hit several cars in front of it that had stopped.
As a result of this accident, the traffic flow from Bandung to Jakarta experienced a long traffic jam up to Kilometer 95.
Police efforts to evacuate victims
Chief of Purwakarta Police AKBP Lilik Ardiansyah said that officers had difficulty evacuating the victims of the successive accidents on the Cipularang KM 92 Toll Road because there were several drivers and passengers who were pinched.
He said that joint officers from the police, Jasa Marga, and medical teams were deployed to the accident site to handle the evacuation of victims.
Several injured victims have been taken to nearby hospitals, including Abdul Rojak Hospital and Siloam Purwakarta Hospital, for further medical treatment.
The police chief said the process of evacuating victims was quite difficult because several vehicles were piled up. This condition became an obstacle in the evacuation.
West Java Police Chief Inspector General Akhmad Wiyagus said 17 vehicles were involved in an accident at KM 92B Cipularang Toll Road, Purwakarta Regency, West Java, Monday (11/11/2024) afternoon, and one person was declared dead. He said the Traffic Director of the West Java Police had checked the accident site.
“The number of victims is one dead, then eight injured, but later it will continue to be checked,” said Akhmad Wiyagus after attending a Polri working meeting with Commission III of the House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta.
