What to Expect: Pope Francis’s Jakarta Visit from 3rd to 6th September

The Leader of the World Catholic Church and Head of State of the Vatican, Pope Francis, will visit Indonesia from 3-6 September 2024.

Later, the Pope will arrive in the country on Tuesday (3/9/2024) afternoon.

Upon arrival in Indonesia, the Pope will rest first before the following day, Wednesday (4/9/2024), undergoing a number of agendas in Jakarta. The Pope’s first agenda will be to meet with President Joko Widodo at the State Palace.

‘ As previously announced, Pope Francis’s travel agenda is still according to plan,’ said Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Papal Visit to Indonesia Ignasius Jonan in a written statement to all Indonesian national media.

The theme of Pope Francis’ visit to Indonesia is Faith, Fraternity and Defence. Pope Francis’ visit to Indonesia has the theme of Faith, Fraternity, and Defence. He expressed that ‘Firm faith produces true fraternity, while true fraternity is expressed in compassion for one’s neighbor and the universe’. Pope Francis is the third Pope to visit Indonesia.

The first was Pope Saint Paul VI, who visited from 3 to 4 December 1970. Nineteen years later, Pope John Paul II visited Indonesia from 9 to 14 October 1989. After 35 years, Pope Francis is making an apostolic journey to Indonesia.

For those of you who cannot attend in person, there is a live streaming link of the KWI Social Commission and national television broadcasting live.

It’s important to note that people who come to attend mass at GBK on Thursday, 5 September 2024, in the afternoon, must have a ticket bracelet. This is a necessary requirement to ensure a smooth and orderly event.

Ignasius Jonan confirmed that for the celebration of Holy Mass at GBK, people who can attend mass are people who already have bracelet tickets.

Meanwhile, the official release of the Committee for the Arrival of Pope Francis to Indonesia explained that people who do not have bracelet tickets are not allowed to enter the GBK stadium area.
