Controversy Erupts Over Uluwatu Cliff Excavation for Seawall Construction

Share:

The Uluwatu cliff seawall construction project has begun. The activity begins with the opening of the inspection road, which is currently 60 per cent complete.

However, on social media, the opening of access through cliff excavation has raised many questions.

Viral videos show by @infobali.viral the dredging of cliffs, and netizen comments are against the action. Some are even worried that it is just a gimmick to be followed by the construction of tourist accommodations.

The head of the Water Resources Division (SDA) of the Badung Regency Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR), AA Rama Putra, said the dredging was for road construction.

The construction of the inspection road in this rift-handling project is very important. The inspection road has a length of about 600 meters and an average width of 6 meters.

This access starts from the north of Pura Luhur Uluwatu’s parking area and circles along the edge of the cliff.

In addition, the penglingsir of Puri Jrokuta, AA Ngurah Jaka Pratidnya also spoke up to refute these assumptions.

As reported by WartaBali, he emphasized that the pruning was for the smooth running of the project.

“What is clear is that there is no tourism accommodation. The cliff trimming is purely for the smooth running of the project to carry materials,” he told WartaBali.

According to him, concerns about the cracking of the Uluwatu Temple cliff have actually been going on for years. Even so, survey steps were taken by cooperating with academics.

Since 1904, the cracking of the Uluwatu Temple cliff has actually been known. Because of this condition, Bale Pemiyosan or a small hall for religious rituals was moved.

“1904 (the cliff) was already cracked. 1992, our lingsir children moved the Pujawali prayers to the Middle Jaba. It (cliff excavation) was all done to take care of it so that there would be no more decline,” he said.

For information, the Pura Luhur Uluwatu cliff crack handling project is not only focused on handling cracks.

However, there are four items that will be worked on. Consisting of access roads to the beach, revetment, handling cliffs under the Pura Luhur Uluwatu, and renovating Pura Beji.
