The Olympic event, which is the biggest world sporting event, is also an event of pride for each country that gets a winning medal. The same thing happened to the Indonesian government, which gave appreciation to gold and bronze medalists in Indonesia.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the government had prepared a bonus for the Olympic winners at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“As a form of this proud appreciation, the government has prepared a bonus of IDR 6 billion for gold medalists, IDR 1.65 billion for bronze medalists,” Jokowi said when receiving athletes of the XXXIII Paris Olympics at the Merdeka Palace, Thursday, August 15, 2024.

For information, Indonesia won two gold medals at the 2024 Olympics in weightlifting, achieved by Rizki Juniansyah and speed climbing, achieved by Veddriq Leonardo. One bronze medal was also got from badminton through Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

This is the first time Indonesia has won two gold medals since the 1992 Olympics. At that time, the gold medal was won by Alan Budikusuma and Susy Susanti from the badminton men’s singles and women’s singles.

The government prepared a bonus of IDR 6 billion for gold medalists and IDR 1.65 billion for bronze medalists. Coaches whose athletes win gold medals will receive IDR 2.75 billion, and coaches whose athletes win bronze medals will receive IDR 675 million.

As well as IDR 250 million for athletes who do not get a medal as an appreciation from the government.

The biggest bonus from various countries for Olympic winners

The bonus given by the Indonesian government to Olympic winners is indeed large, but the nominal bonus is still inferior to that of Hong Kong and Singapore. The two countries give the highest prizes to Paris 2024 Olympic medalists.

Hong Kong athletes who win Olympic gold will get a bonus of USD 1.21 million. Meanwhile, the Olympic silver winner will receive USD 605 thousand and the bronze winner will be rewarded with USD 320,535.

From Paris, Hong Kong brought home two gold and two bronze. Hong Kong brought home two gold medals, one from fencing and one from swimming, along with two bronze medals.

In second place is Singapore, giving a bonus of USD 745,300 for gold medalists, USD 373 thousand for those who bring home silver medals, and USD 186 thousand for bronze contributors to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Completing the top five countries with the biggest bonuses at the 2024 Paris Olympics are Israel and Kazakhstan. Winners from Israel received bonuses of USD 271 thousand for gold, USD 216 thousand for silver, and USD 135 thousand for bronze.

Kazakhstan provides a bonus of USD 250 thousand for gold winners, USD 150 thousand for silver winners, and USD 75 thousand for bronze.
