Australians Top Bali Tourist Numbers in Early 2024 with 40 Daily Flights

Bali is still a favourite tourist destination for foreign tourists in Indonesia. It seems that tourists from Australia make the most visits to Bali.

Not surprisingly, with 40 flights a day from nine cities in Australia, the country tops the list of foreign tourist visits to Bali.

“Australia is number one; there are 40 flights a day. So there are 9 cities from Australia that come here,” said I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport General Manager Handy Heryudhitiawan during the inauguration of the Denpasar-Kota Kinabalu inaugural flight in Bali, Friday, August 9, 2024, as reported from Antara.

Earlier this year, in a promising move for future travel, Ngurah Rai Airport increased the number of direct flights from Bali to Australia to a total of 9.

Two new Australian cities, Gold Coast and Canberra, now also serve direct flights to Bali, bringing the total to nine cities. Previously, there were no direct flights to Bali from these two cities.

Handy also stated that the condition of Australian tourist arrivals to Bali continues to grow and is starting to normalize to the pre-COVID-19 pandemic era.

In addition, total traffic at the airport increased by around 7 per cent this year when compared to the previous year, 2023. Not only Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia are among the countries that have good ‘traffic’, as they are ranked as the first and second destinations in Bali.

Singapore has 18 flights, and Malaysia has 13-14 flights from Bali daily. Meanwhile, for Bali itself, our total traffic increased by about 7 per cent this year compared to 2023,” Handy said.

With continued growth, Bali remains optimistic about its tourism future, especially with support from strong international markets, such as Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.

Number of foreign tourists from Australia to Bali

As reported by Detik, 1,847,735 foreign tourists vacationed in Bali from January to April 2024, surpassing the same period in 2019, when 1,819,664 visits occurred.

According to Endang Retno Sri Subiyandani, the Head of Bali’s Central Bureau of Statistics, foreign tourists of Australian nationality still dominated vacations to Bali in April 2024, with 117,508 visits. This number increased by 3.12 per cent compared to March 2024.

This number is also predicted to continue increasing due to many visits from June to September, which is one of the best times to visit Bali, more so because of the warm weather and no rain.
