For foreign tourists, Indonesian cuisine is a unique cultural experience, rich in flavor with a myriad of spices used. Some even feel that Indonesian food is included in the list of the spiciest foods in the world.

One of the foreign tourists, video creator Luke Martin @chopsticktravel, intends to try one of the hottest foods in Jakarta. He approaches one of the roadside food stands selling a special Ayam Penyet Cabe Ijo menu.

One of the characteristics of the menu is that it uses tens of kilograms of green cayenne pepper.

The green chili peppers are fried until wilted, then mixed with raw garlic, salt, and flavoring. Lime juice is added to make it taste fresh.

The spicy chili sauce is wrapped around the entire surface of the fried chicken, so the spicy sensation is evenly distributed. Don’t forget that the chicken is smashed, so it’s more easy to enjoy.

When served, the tourist felt overwhelmed by the amount of chili used. “That’s next-level spicy,” he said.

According to Luke, this dish offers a spicy level that will make your stomach hurt.

For expats in Jakarta who intend to try some of the city’s spicy cuisine, don’t worry, we have some recommendations:

The first must-try for spicy cuisine enthusiasts in Jakarta is Seblak Jeletet Murni. This dish is a medley of flavors, with a variety of fillings including crackers, macaroni, noodles, meatballs, sausages, chicken, and fish balls.

Whether you prefer a mild kick or a fiery explosion, the choice is yours. This popular spot is always bustling with visitors, a testament to its delicious taste.

You can visit two branches in Jakarta, namely Seblak Jeletet Murni Muara Karang Branch and a branch in Tanjung Barat.

2. Mie Pedas AA

At Mie Pedes AA, visitors can savor their spicy noodles in a comfortable setting, either indoors or outdoors. The menu offers three variants: non-spicy oil noodles, savory spicy huh ah noodles, and sweet, thick noodles.

3. Sate Taichan Senayan

As the name implies, this place is located on Asia Africa Street around Senayan. Various satay taichi vendors are available here, and expats in Jakarta can choose whichever one they like.

The sensation of the spicy chili sauce and the freshness of the lime, coupled with the chicken pieces grilled with a secret seasoning beforehand so that they don’t taste bland, keeps many foodies coming back for more.

4. Warung Bu Kris

It is located in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. This Surabaya-based restaurant is often touted as the best place to eat penyet chicken in Jakarta. This can be an alternative for those who want to try spicy penyet chicken like Ayam Penyet Cabe Ijo in the previous video.

The level of spiciness is unbelievable. It’s equally delicious whether you want to use sambal penyet or sambal mango.

5. Nasi Goreng Mafia

The fried rice menu here has unique names: Nasi Goreng Preman, Nasi Goreng Gangster, and Nasi Goreng Triad. In addition to the fried rice, the Nasi Gila and Ayam Penyet at Nasgor Mafia are also very spicy.
