An 18-year-old truck driver driving recklessly triggered successive accidents involving seven vehicles at the Halim Toll Gate in Jakarta on Wednesday, 27th March 2024. CCTV footage from the toll gate capturing the incident has circulated on social media.

According to Jasa Marga, the incident began when the truck collided with a car on the toll road. Subsequently, an altercation ensued between the truck driver and the car owner along the road, following which the truck driver abruptly accelerated. Moments later, the truck crashed into the Halim Toll Gate, causing damage to several other vehicles.

Before reaching the toll gate, there was already a line of vehicles. “So, he forced his way through and pushed the pickup until it crashed into substation five,” stated Latif Usman, Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya.

The truck continued into the central area, causing significant damage to several cars. Police Commissioner Latif Usman from Polda Metro Jaya confirmed no fatalities in the accident. Currently, four victims have been reported injured and have been promptly taken to UKI Hospital in Cawang.

“The injuries sustained by one victim were quite severe. The CT scan revealed bleeding in the brain, necessitating intensive care. Currently, his condition is relatively stable, and we are closely monitoring him,” stated Dr. Ronaldo Sianturi, Head of the Emergency Department at UKI Hospital, as reported by Antara on Wednesday (27/3/2024).

Following the accident, three Halim Utama toll gates were temporarily closed, and the capacity of operational substations was optimized. Road users are advised to plan their travel routes carefully and stay updated on traffic conditions to avoid congestion.
