On Monday, 25th March 2024, at approximately 10 AM local time, two female Spanish tourists fell victim to a mugging incident in the Uluwatu area of Bali. According to the Denpasar Police, as the two tourists were traversing Uluwatu Roadway, a man riding a Jupiter MX motorbike with license plate number DK 4550 LX approached them from behind.

Without warning, the perpetrator collided with the victim’s motorbike and swiftly seized the necklace worn by one of the Spanish tourists. In a brave attempt to resist, the victim struggled to retrieve her necklace, resulting in both her and the perpetrator tumbling onto the asphalt.

Upon witnessing the incident, another tourist rushed to aid the two Spanish tourists. To apprehend the perpetrator, the bystander attempted to intervene. However, the perpetrator put up a fight, ultimately managing to flee the scene, leaving his motorbike behind.

Both victims sustained injuries from the altercation and promptly notified the Denpasar police of the incident. Fortunately, the stolen necklace was later determined to be an imitation piece.

Both victims have been transported to the hospital for medical treatment. As for the losses incurred by the victims, the police have yet to estimate their value. The Denpasar police are currently working on apprehending the perpetrator, having identified his characteristics.

This incident adds to a series of theft cases involving foreign tourists in Bali. In a similar event in December 2023, a Singaporean tourist lost approximately SGD 3,000, equivalent to IDR 35 million. It is believed that the perpetrator gained access to the villa where the tourist was staying. This incident was promptly reported to the Bali police.
