30 New Autogates Installed at Ngurah Rai Airport for Enhanced Passenger Service

Share:

On Wednesday, 6th March 2024, the Directorate General of Immigration commenced the operation of 30 new autogates at Ngurah Rai International Airport. These autogates are designed to facilitate immigration procedures not only for foreign nationals but also for domestic tourists. Moving forward, these additional autogates will streamline immigration checks, completing the process in just 15-25 seconds.

This autogate system, inspired by Singapore’s successful implementation, aims to enhance the tourist experience during immigration. Furthermore, the Indonesian government plans to introduce an additional 60 autogate units at various airports across Indonesia soon.

“The introduction of autogate facilities significantly accelerates immigration clearance, particularly considering the average daily international arrivals at Ngurah Rai Airport range from 14,000 to 16,000 during low season and 18,000 to 20,000 during peak season,” stated Silmy Karim, Director General of Immigration. “Immigration remains committed to ongoing evaluation and development to ensure that innovations continue to operate optimally.”

The autogate system integrates facial recognition technology with Border Control Management (BCM), streamlining the inspection process to just 15-25 seconds per passenger. This technological application bolsters an integrated and seamless immigration service ecosystem for foreign visitors.

According to Antara, the Bali Immigration Office embarked on digitalization efforts starting in 2023. A total of 80 autogate units will be installed, with 60 units designated for the arrival area and the remaining units for departure.

The autogate system will involve direct facial verification against passport or visa data. Additionally, it will be integrated with the immigration warning monitoring system to enhance immigration monitoring capabilities.

Besides Ngurah Rai Airport, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport boasts the largest autogate system in Indonesia, comprising a total of 78 autogates.
