Viral Bullying Incident Involving Binus School Serpong Student, Perpetrated by The School Gang

A bullying incident garnered widespread attention on 18th February 2024, when a user named @bospurwa, on the X platform, reported an incident at Binus International High School in BSD, Tangerang. A high school student was subjected to bullying by several older students at the school, leading to the victim’s hospitalization.

In an official statement from the victim’s mother, it was revealed that her child was targeted by a group of students affiliated with a school gang known as GT. This gang is suspected of engaging in various deviant behaviours, including smoking, violence, and vaping, and is reportedly comprised of underage individuals.

 


The victim, who was considered a potential gang member, was coerced by his seniors to perform various tasks, ranging from purchasing food to enduring physical violence. According to the victim’s mother, in one instance, her child was forced to stand on a pole and support it with a wooden block until he was burned with a cigarette. Several students recorded the incident as it unfolded.

IPDA Galih, Head of the South Tangerang Police Child Development Center Unit, confirmed that the police had intervened in the bullying incident at the prestigious Binus Serpong International High School.

According to Galih, the victim’s parents have filed an official report with the South Tangerang Police, and the case is now under investigation by the PPA Unit of the South Tangerang Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

At present, the police have interviewed numerous witnesses and conducted examinations at the scene of the bullying incident. The victim is currently undergoing post-mortem procedures and receiving intensive treatment at the hospital. The police suspect that there is more than one perpetrator involved in this bullying incident, as the victim’s body exhibits multiple bruises and burn marks.

Haris Suhendra, Binus School’s Public Relations representative, officially acknowledged the bullying incident involving one of their students on 19th February 2024. He stated that the school is actively addressing the matter and has called upon all parties involved, including students and parents, for discussions.

Binus School Serpong unequivocally condemns any form of violence and bullying. The school is committed to providing comprehensive support to the victim throughout the investigation process. Suhendra underscored that all individuals identified as perpetrators will face disciplinary action following school regulations.

“Keep monitoring them until they face legal consequences. Being the children of celebrities shouldn’t grant them leniency. I detest bullies like them; they shouldn’t be forgiven. There should be social repercussions at the very least,” wrote @serenitmy on X.

Under Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 82 of 2015 concerning the Prevention and Management of Violence in Educational Institutions, schools are mandated to safeguard children from violence within and outside the school environment. Various sanctions are stipulated for schools found negligent in fulfilling their duties, ranging from warnings to temporary closure of the educational institution.
