The North Bali Airport project in Buleleng Regency will proceed despite its exclusion from the National Strategic Project (PSN) list. The decision to continue the project was reaffirmed following the conclusion of the presidential election process on 14th February 2024. Ahmad Muzani, a member of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto’s National Campaign Team, reiterated this stance.
Although initially included in the discussion of the National Medium-Term Development Plan for 2024-2025, the international airport will be situated in the Kubutambahan sub-district of Buleleng. It is envisaged to cater primarily to Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) flights. Efforts to construct this airport have been extensively documented since 2018.

In the future, the North Bali Airport will collaborate with Ngurah Rai Airport to complement each other’s services. Ngurah Rai Airport will be designated for premium flights, while North Bali Airport will accommodate other types of flights.
With projections indicating a significant increase in passenger traffic at Ngurah Rai Airport by 2026, the Bali government recognizes the need for an alternative. Hence, the construction of North Bali Airport is deemed necessary shortly.
According to Bibu Panji Sakti, the company involved in constructing the North Bali Airport, the facility will have the capacity to handle 50 million passengers annually and facilitate the movement of 378 thousand aircraft.
The airport will be situated offshore with a runway spanning 3,600 meters, enabling it to accommodate a variety of wide-body aircraft, including the Boeing 777 and Boeing 300.
Previously, the proposal for the new airport faced opposition from former President Megawati Soekarnoputri, citing concerns about potential social and cultural impacts on Balinese society and its traditional ambience.
