Jakarta Listed Among the 30 Most Congested City Worldwide

In 2023, Jakarta secured the 30th spot on the list of the most congested cities globally, according to the TomTom Traffic Index’s latest research. This extensive study, spanning 387 cities across 55 countries and 6 continents, revealed that residents of Jakarta require a minimum of 23 minutes and 30 seconds to cover a distance of 10 kilometres at an average speed of 20 km/h.

London claimed the top spot as the most congested city in 2023, followed by Dublin and Toronto. The European region retained its position as the leading contributor to CO2 emissions worldwide, with London and Paris individually contributing over 1,100 kg of CO2 emissions during rush hour each year.

On 9th March 2023, Jakarta experienced its highest congestion level, requiring 30 minutes and 10 seconds to cover 10 kilometres. Over a year, Jakarta residents spend a minimum of 177 hours, equivalent to 4 days and 21 hours, navigating through traffic jams.
