Jakarta Government Prepares Car Free Nights for New Year’s 2024 Celebration

The Jakarta government is gearing up for car free nights during the 2024 New Year celebrations at multiple locations. According to Syafrin Liputo, the Head of the Jakarta Transportation Service, the plan involves organizing one car-free day and two car-free nights. The first implementation will commence on 24 December followed by the second on 31 December 2023.

The car free nights slated for 31 December 2023, will kick off at 7 PM local time, specifically in the Thamrin-Sudirman area. To ensure security during Christmas and the New Year, Polda Metro Jaya is deploying 4,041 joint personnel to preempt any potential threats.

To accommodate the expected surge in public interest, the Jakarta government has arranged extended operational hours for both the MRT and LRT during the upcoming 2024 New Year celebrations. MRT Jakarta will run from 6 AM until 2 AM, starting from 31 December 2023 to 1 January 2024. Initially, the train frequency will be every 10 minutes between 6 AM-12 PM and 1 AM-2 AM. Later, from 12 PM to 1 AM, the frequency will increase to every five minutes.

Simultaneously, the Jakarta LRT will operate from 5.30 AM to 2 AM, spanning 31 December 2023 to 1 January 2024, with a 10-minute headway. Additionally, TransJakarta will maintain full 24-hour operations throughout the New Year celebrations. To avoid overcrowding in one particular area, the Jakarta government has designated multiple locations for the 2024 New Year celebrations. Details of these locations will be provided below:
