Bali News: Tourist’s Car Collides with Berawa Beach Barrier, Falls onto the Sand

Share:

Bali News today was struck by an incident on Sunday, 17 December 2023 around 9 PM local time, as a tourist car collided with a barrier in the Berawa Beach area during the evening hours. This incident caused a stir among locals due to the vulnerable spot on the beach where the sedan landed, susceptible to waves.

In a video shared by @kadek_gus_gtn, a white sedan carrying two tourists can be observed falling onto Berawa Beach in Canggu. Both individuals appeared distressed, attempting to extract the car from the beach area.

However, due to their proximity to the beach waves, the driver struggled to remove the car from the area. The driver, identified as a foreign citizen, is suspected of driving under the influence.

The locals commenting on the video mentioned that shortly after the incident, the police arrived to assist in evacuating the car.

This occurrence isn’t an isolated case in Bali for 2023. The island has witnessed several undesirable incidents involving both local and foreign drivers. According to the Databooks 2023, Bali ranks among the top 10 provinces in Indonesia with the highest number of traffic accidents.

According to the Head of PT Jasa Raharja Bali, Abubakar Aljufri, approximately 85% of accidents in Bali involve motorbike riders aged between 17 to 50 years, highlighting the demographic’s vulnerability. The absence of public transportation forces many individuals, including tourists, to heavily rely on private vehicles like motorcycles and cars, contributing to the high accident rates.

Moreover, inadequate monitoring of tourists exhibiting poor road manners significantly elevates the number of accidents in various tourist spots across Bali. Instances in areas like Canggu witness frequent accidents due to violations such as disregarding helmet use and ignoring traffic signals.

There’s an optimistic outlook for 2024, anticipating a more assertive stance from the Bali government in curbing the increase of victims in traffic accidents. It’s essential to compile Bali News reports on accidents involving tourists for future assessments. This evaluation will prioritize enhancing security, comfort, and safety standards for holidaymakers visiting Bali.
