The 2024 Bali LRT construction is set to commence early in the year, with the groundbreaking scheduled for January 2024. This LRT project aims to connect key destinations such as Ngurah Rai Airport, Kuta, Seminyak, and Canggu.

The concept for the Bali LRT’s was introduced in mid-2023, directly presented by Bali’s Governor, Wayan Koster. Based on Katadata’s 2022 data, Denpasar ranked as Indonesia’s third most congested city, accumulating 22 hours of wasted time, indicating Bali’s need for improved public transportation infrastructure.

I Nyoman Giri Prasta, the Regent of Badung, disclosed that the investment value for the LRT project has reached IDR 25 trillion, sourced from multiple investors. He anticipates that this LRT’s introduction will potentially alleviate congestion in Bali’s urban areas by up to 75%.

The Bali LRT’s project is structured across three phases:

  • Phase 1: I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport to Seminyak (via Central Parking)
  • Phase 2: Seminyak to Canggu
  • Phase 3: Canggu to Mengwi

Moreover, the LRT in Bali initiative is part of the national transportation strategic projects. President Joko Widodo has endorsed and requested further studies to expand the route, emphasizing its significance.
