American Man Angkot Stunt in Bali Ended Being Fined by The Police

Jared Brendan Mell (35), an American man, was given a traffic ticket in a bizarre situation on Monday, the 12th of June 2023, in Denpasar after being seen driving a public minivan (known locally as an angkot) which was posted on social media.

Jared broke traffic laws, notably by not having the Class A driver’s licence necessary to operate a public vehicle, which led to this unexpected turn of events. The minibus’s expired registration worsened the situation, which called for further penalties.

I Ketut Sukadi, a spokesperson for Denpasar Police, told the reporters, “Since the person in question only had a regular Class A driver’s licence, and the minibus’ registration had expired, our officers proceeded to issue a ticket and impound the vehicle as evidence.”

Jared boldly chose to drive an angkot through the streets of Bali for an unknown reason. The American man was seen using the minibus as an unusual form of transportation for his surfboard in the video that concerned passersby recorded and later posted on social media.

The American man, who claimed to have borrowed the minivan from a friend, is now embroiled in legal processes and must deal with the repercussions of his risky adventure. Interestingly, Jared used to make an Instagram account to capture his adventurous moment in his angkot. Now, after he got fined by the police, the Instagram account @superbeercarry has gone private.

This strange incident was first made public when a trending video on social media showing the foreign national in action went viral. Traffic police officers immediately began a chase in response to public concerns.

The minibus was first seen yesterday, 12th of June 2023, at about 1 p.m. travelling down Sunset Road to Imam Bonjol, Denpasar.

The quest eventually took Bali police to the Tahura Statue, conveniently located along the renowned Bypass Ngurah Rai. Mell was then urged to stop by the authorities.

In addition to doing a thorough document check, including a look at the driver’s identity, our police then proceeded to suspend the driver from the car, explained Ketut. The identity of the angkot’s owner is unknown.

Most locals argue that this bizarre incident is unique; an American man falling in love and deciding to use angkot as his transportation is something you would only see in Bali.
