Indonesia Tourism After COVID-19: CHSE Certification Program Continues

The Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) certificate is essential for every tourism businesses or facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, even though the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic have subsided, the CHSE certification is still being enforced for businesses in the tourism sector.

“It’s still being enforced (the CHSE certificate). The CHSE is part of improving the quality of sustainable tourism after the pandemic,” said Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno in the Weekly Press Briefing, Monday, 10th of April, 2023.

Sandiaga said CHSE certificate had become Indonesia’s national standard and a principle that would continue to be applied in every tourist destinations in Indonesia. Although the current situation shows that the rapid progress of COVID-19 has subsided. Sandiaga has urged the general public and travellers to take precautions for their health and safety. Additionally, the Ministry will keep advocating for the CHSE certification program’s adoption among tourist industry stakeholders.

“Later, each CHSE certification holder would be subject to an audit and inspection by the tourism affairs certification authority about the implementation of the standard,” Sandiaga explained.

Every CHSE-certified tourism businesses, venues, and products will have its services under a close watch by the local community and regional tourism agencies to make sure that it is implemented in the best way possible.

The Minister stated that Haryadi Sukamdani, the chairwoman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), had stated that the SATUSEHAT application would continue to be utilised in hotels and restaurants with CHSE certification as a preventative step against any increase in COVID-19 instances, all in hope of stop & lower the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia.
