Toyota Indonesia Sets New Record in Export Deliveries to Australia

Director of External Relations of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), Bob Azam revealed that his party would receive a visit from the Australian dealer network to Toyota Indonesia’s factory facilities. This effort was made to prove the quality of Toyota vehicles made domestically in Indonesia. Thus as we advance, shipping to Australia will be faster and smoother.

This effort is made up until now because it has been recognized that vehicle exports to Australia have been complex and quite challenging since there are different policies on emission quality and certain features produced by Australia & Indonesia.

“The plan is that there will be visits from Australian dealers to Indonesia to see it directly (the process of making Toyota cars in Indonesia),” said Bob in Jakarta, on Monday, 10th of April, 2023.

“Just like the first time we exported to the Middle East because, at that time, suppliers were transferred from Thailand to Indonesia. After they came here and saw the factory, they trusted us, so there will be no more obstacles from now on,” continued Bob.

“We have also frequently communicated with the Australian Ambassador so that our efforts to export vehicles to Australia can run smoothly,” explained Bob.

Bob also explained that there were several policy differences in car standardization in Australia, including car emission standards (Euro 5), traditional passive safety features in the form of airbags for children, and the presence of a particular button (panic button) to contact the local police directly.

It is known that Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia has succeeded in exporting a domestically assembled Fortuner to Australia in February 2022. In the early stages, there were about 900 units sent there.

Officially, Toyota Indonesia has exported locally assembled cars to nearly 80 countries spanning four continents: Asia, Australia, America and Africa.

“Up until now, we don’t have a volume target. For us, the most important thing right now is to be well-received. So there are no cars that have been sent and then returned to us, or like in several other countries, become used cars because they are deemed not passed the standards there,” said Bob.
