Wings Air Reopen The Flight to Wakatobi

The government has set aside IDR 4 billion to fund the reactivation of Wings Air operations routes in Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi. The information mentioned on the company’s official website on Thursday, the 23rd of March, was verified by the management of Wings Air and Lion Air Group.

Wings Air invited customers to “explore Southeast Sulawesi’s underwater beauty with us,” as seen in the attached route list picture.

Starting on the 10th of April, 2023, there will be two aircraft of Wings Air itineraries, namely the Kendari-Wakatobi route at 10:50–11:35 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA) and the Wakatobi–Kendari route at 12:00–12:45 p.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA).

Additionally, there will be two routes: Kendari – Baubau at 1:10-1:40 p.m. WITA and Kendari – Kendari at 10:00-10:30 a.m. WITA, with aircraft number IW 1318. These trips are only accessible two days a week, Monday and Friday. Since the 8th of July, 2022, Wings Air has yet to operate a scheduled service from or to Wakatobi.

Head of Southeast Sulawesi Tourism Agency, Belli Harli Tombili, responded that Wakatobi Region had spent IDR 4 billion to reactivate Wings Air paths in Wakatobi. When reached on Thursday, Belli stated, “The province did not set the budget; Wakatobi did for IDR 4 billion.”  

He also greeted Wings Air return to Wakatobi, designated one of Indonesia’s top 10 travel locations. Belli stated, “We expect that the Wakatobi Tourism Department, including the local travel companies, can use this opportunity to increase the promotion to visit Wakatobi Region.

After the pandemic hit the world in 2019 and put a halt on tourism, this year, Indonesia is trying its best to bounce back and reactivate Indonesia’s top destinations, such as Wakatobi & Bali, in the hope that more tourists will come and increase the overall GDP as soon as possible.
