In a combined investigation with the South Jakarta Foreigner Oversight Team (TIMPORA), the South Jakarta Immigration Office discovered several foreign citizens who had broken immigration laws at apartments in Pancoran and Setiabudi on the 28th of February, 2023.

The news was announced by Felucia Sengky Ratna, director of the South Jakarta Special Class I Immigration Office, during a press briefing on Wednesday at the neighbourhood office building. “Two of the six arrested Nigerian nationals, with the letters GEN and VUN, were found to have given false information when applying for residence permits. Both have investor temporary stay licenses (ITAS) funded by PT TIM, but they are unable to speak about their roles as investors or the company’s operations, “Explained Sengky.

The final four residents of Nigeria with the initials ODE, CJB, FCE, and OAN are ITK holders, and three of them have been overstaying since 2022. Sengky added that the four outsiders supported themselves by hawking fufu, a typical African dish, to other Nigerian citizens. Deportation orders were also issued for two foreign citizens, Indian citizen SAD and Filipino citizen IBW, whose residence permits had lapsed and who could not cover their living costs. The eight foreign nationals will face strict punishment through expulsion and imprisonment.

Two foreign citizens, an Indian citizen SAD and a Filipino citizen IBW, whose residence permits had lapsed and who could not cover their costs, were also ordered deported. For the eight foreign nationals, strict measures will be applied, including expulsion and imprisonment.

“According to the findings of our inquiry, it has been established that GEN and VUN broke Article 123, Letter a, of Law No. 6/2011 Concerning Immigration. Foreign citizens ODE, CJB, FCE, and OAN violated Articles 78 and 122, Letter a, of Law No. 6/2011 Concerning Immigration because they engaged in actions that did not correspond to the purposes for which their residence permits were designated. In addition, SAD and IBW broke Immigration Law No. 6/2011’s Article 78. Deportation and warning will be our next steps after everything, “Sengky said.

The South Jakarta Immigration Office continues to uphold security and foster a favourable climate in the South Jakarta region in collaboration with TIMPORA and the South Jakarta Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda). To reduce future immigration violations, Sengky said, “We will keep working to educate both Indonesian and foreign residents about immigration laws and to take action against foreign nationals who violate them.
