Bali was again chosen to host an international event. In 2024 Bali will host the 10th World Water Forum (WWF). This is a matter of pride for Bali because Bali has been used as a venue for international events several times.
This event is inseparable from the efforts and readiness of the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, to prepare Bali as a WWF event venue. In fact, since 2019 Governor Koster has issued a letter of recommendation to the President of WWF based in France. With various considerations, finally it could be held in Indonesia, especially in Bali.
Deputy Chancellor III of the Indonesian Hindu University (Unhi) Dr. Drs. I Putu Bachelor, M.Sc., in the Red and White Discussion of Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali, New Era Bali, at Warung 63 Bali Coffee Jalan Veteran Denpasar said he was grateful that Bali had again become a place for world events. “Appreciate that we are actually an island that we recognize or are aware of our potential because at the time it was busy with the world of tourism,” he said.
Apart from that, Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali is a fundamental concept, which already exists in several lontars, in its manifestation or natural process it is always carried out by the Balinese people but not programmed in a planned manner. With the arrival of a government program that has recently begun to be concerned about water breeding areas, it has realized this well even through international standard programs.
Bali besides having four lakes as sources of water, also has other sources, namely springs in the form of mixed, fresh, soft water which need to be preserved because they are formed. However, because of our greed to explore tourism potentials, has changed the order which has caused our water sources to be neglected and dry up.
Mahasaraswati Denpasar University Academic Prof. Dr. Drs. I Ketut Setia Sapta, SE., M.Sc. said that events held in an area would contribute to that area. “In an area, if there are activities carried out, the community’s economic activities will develop, so community involvement is expected to play an optimal role,” he said.
The implementation of the WWF event in Bali is inseparable from the world’s attention that in water management, Bali has a fairly strong tradition of respecting water as a source of people’s life. In daily life, the preservation and glorification of water is a routine activity that is carried out by Balinese people, both spiritually and spiritually. “From there it gives an illustration that Bali already has a habit of maintaining and glorifying water,” he said.
So it is very appropriate that this event be held in Bali because apart from being the main venue for events and a living museum of natural water management, this event also provides fresh air in efforts to accelerate Bali’s economic recovery. “Now in reaping the benefits of the event, it depends on how the community reacts to it,” he said.
Warmadewa University culturalist Dr. Drs. A A. Gede Raka, M.Sc. said that the public must gain an understanding of why Bali is still trusted as a venue for international events. One of them is Taksu Bali. Taksu is said not to be obtained just like that but through a process of excavation, management and maintenance properly. “If there is no taksu, it is impossible for Bali to be chosen as the venue for various events,” he said.
Balinese people also have a high awareness of maintaining cultural values that exist in Bali. This is what the Balinese continue to do so that the world sees what Bali is doing and the world’s trust in Bali arises.
The commitment of the Balinese people to preserve water under the command of the government is quite high. Like the concept of the Governor of Bali, Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali, is a written command for the Balinese people to be more aware and aware of protecting water, plus glorifying water sources. The Balinese view of the water is not only a practical need but also a religious ritual need. So water glorification has been carried out by the Balinese people with rituals and everything.
