Fishing Ship Sank in the Indian Ocean, One Dead and 10 Missing

KM Linggar Petak 89, which is a fishing ship, capsized and sank in the waters of the Indian Ocean, on Tuesday 28th February. The ship with a POB of 15 people is estimated to have sunk around 13.00 WITA.

Ship Agent PT. Mina Samudera’s source informed that 4 people were rescued, 1 person was found dead, and 10 other people are still being searched for. “At 13.30 WITA, KM Bahari Nusantara 25 found and evacuated 5 crew members of KM Linggar Petak 89, and are still searching for other crew members,” explained Gede Darmada, S.E., M.A.P., Head of the Bali Basarnas Office.

Information from the captain of KM Linggar Petak 89 who managed to survive revealed that the ship had sunk, and the crew members were holding on to buoy balls. “We received the information yesterday at 18.05 WITA, and we have moved KN SAR Arjuna 229 starting last night and today it is moving again from Pasir Pier of Benoa Harbor, at 07.35 WITA,” explained Darmada in the release.

The estimated travel time is around 2.5 hours to arrive at the sinking ship. Meanwhile, coordination is still being carried out with KM Bahari Nusantara 25 and KM Bahari Nusantara to monitor the progress of the search process.

“Apart from deploying personnel and Defense Forces, we also contacted SROP and VTS Benoa for e-broadcast maps to ships around the incident site,” he explained.

He hopes the weather will support the search process and the victims can be found soon. Today’s SAR operation involved 17 crew members, 5 rescuers, 7 Air Police at the National Police Headquarters, 6 Air Police at Benoa Harbor and 2 SAR Radio 115 people.
