12th October 2022 – In the midst of the threat of an economic recession, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno is optimistic that the target of foreign tourists in Indonesia can be reached, which is around 2,5 million people.

In a Weekly Press Briefing held at Central Jakarta, Uno said that the target within the middle threshold can be achieved as the foreign tourists’ target is at 1,8 million to 3,6 million. So, the middle threshold of around 2,5 million can be achieved.

Additionally, there are more than 894,667 foreign tourists recorded going to Bali from January to August 2022. The number of daily visits reached more than 10,000 foreign tourists per day.

He also said that the target of foreign and domestic tourist visits will be increased for 2023 to almost double the amount by also adding the number of flights to Indonesia.

The target for domestic tourists will be 1,4 billion. As Indonesia is far behind countries like China and Australia whose domestic tourists are much higher.

Thus, he invites investors to invest in the tourism and creative economy sectors. According to Uno provide many opportunities, especially in leading sectors such as hotels, restaurants, and cafes.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is targeting an investment value of 6 to 8 billion US dollars in five Super Priority Destinations (DSP). There are currently five DSPs that could create 4,4 million job opportunities in the year 2024.

Currently, tourism in Indonesia is looking positive despite the threats of the global economic recession in 2023. With the new revitalization of tourist spots in Flores, the island has been attracting both foreign and domestic tourists. Additionally, foreign tourists’ visits to the Special Region of Yogyakarta are increasing, especially foreign tourists coming from Europe. The Special Region of Yogyakarta Tourism Office (Dispar) has begun intensifying promotions abroad in order to attract more foreign tourists.
