23rd August 2022 – A Portuguese foreigner born in Israel, Boaz Tan Anam, who fell after taking a selfie on the summit of Rinjani, was able to be evacuated from the cliffs of the Rinjani crater, Monday (22/08/2022). It took the team four days to be able to evacuate him as they have run through a number of obstacles. The foreigner’s body was immediately taken to the Bhayangkara Hospital of the NTB Police in Mataram, for post-mortem.

On Monday night (22/8), Nanang Sigit PH, Head of the Mataram SAR Agency Office, stated that the uncertain weather and steep terrain were the toughest obstacles in the evacuation process, but the SAR team was assisted by TNGR, East Lombok BPBD, police and TNI finally managed to evacuate the bodies.

The victim is reported to have fallen into a steep cliff or crater of Rinjani as deep as 150 meters. On the fourth day, Boaz Tan Anam’s body was finally evacuated using ropes, heading to the summit of Rinjani.

Previously, Boaz Tan Anam was reported to have fallen from the top of Mount Rinjani while taking a selfie on Friday, 19 August 2022, at around 05.30 WITA. He fell to the northwest slope or the direction of Lake Segara Anak.

The limited time in each process to the summit and the location of the victim is a challenge for the rescue team. As fog and wind start to appear or an unpredictable bad weather were the toughest obstacles in the evacuation process.

The evacuation team headed to the TKP (the crime scene) at 03.00 WITA.

At 09.45 WITA, the team arrived at the top of Mount Rinjani, then carried out an assessment, prepared equipment, and went down to evacuate the victims.

Then at 14:22 WITA, the victim was evacuated and put in a body bag. At 15.05 WITA, the team brought the body down to Pelawangan Sembalun, then to the Evacuation Post in Sembalun.
