August 11, 2022 – Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Investment and Chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), expressed confidence that Indonesia would continue to be the top international investment destination in 2023.

The minister expressed his extreme optimism for Indonesia’s future during the Optimism for a Stronger Indonesia online talk program on Wednesday (10/8). He claimed that Indonesia would continue to be a popular investment destination. He noted that despite the uncertainties plaguing the world, Indonesia’s economic growth had reached 5.44 percent in the second quarter of 2022 (yoy), and the inflation rate had remained at 4.35 percent in June 2022 (yoy). It shows that Indonesia has recently demonstrated a strong economic base.

Indonesia now ranks among the nations with the best macroeconomic underpinnings worldwide as a result of this accomplishment. The Minister of Investment said that this is particularly true when compared to other G20 members.

His optimism also comes from the president’s directive that the investment objective in 2023 must be higher than in 2022. Since the state budget deficit must be kept under 3%, a greater investment target is required to close the funding gap.

He also has high hopes for the achievement of the Rp1,200 trillion investment realization in 2022 would be achieved. The investment realization reached Rp584.6 trillion, or 58.4% of the existing target, up till the first semester of 2022.

Since people are pursuing goals, the investment flow cycle typically starts out being the smallest in the first quarter and then grows in the third and fourth. He predicted that the flow of investment realization would increase until the end of the year.

Boosting the Economy through Tourism

The Tourism Ministry also thought that the 2022 Belitung Beach Festival may help the local tourism industry and attract many tourists to come since Belitung is a UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG), a Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus (KEK) Parawisata, and one of Indonesia’s top 10 priority travel destinations.

According to Uno, the Ministry has made sure that tourism attractions are prepared for visitors. in particular with the CHSE (Cleanliness, Healthy, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability). Innovation, flexibility, and teamwork are required of the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) that will be on show. This agenda is expected to boost the Indonesian economy and keep Indonesia as top international investment in 2023.
