El Greco – Authentic Greek Cuisine in Petitenget Bali

El Greco – Authentic Greek Cuisine — This review was one I was excited about, trying the famous El Greco restaurant in Petitenget, Bali. Who doesn’t love a bit of Greek food every now and again!

El Greco is a Bali institution spanning back to the early 2000s. Renowned for its simplicity, level of service and of course the food, it was my pleasure to finally get to try a few mouthfuls of their authentic Greek cuisine.

The restaurant is easily found on the busy road of Jl Petitenget close to a variety of other Bali restaurant favourites. The outside is simplistic, attractive, cute and has a feeling of a traditional Greek restaurant. It is obvious from the outside what food the restaurant is serving, due to the blue and white colours embellishing the building and its furnishings.

The interior is homey and traditional, to enhance the ambiance of an authentic Greek restaurant. With traditional Greek windows, blue and white stripe seating and traditional stone effect on the flooring.

As you would expect, the menu is primarily focused on Greek food, with a focus on traditional flavours and popular dishes such as, moussaka, souvlaki, gyros, kebabs and lamb dishes. Additionally, they offer pizza, pasta and other Mediterranean favourites.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful and quick to assist with recommendations and ensuring the experience was of a good standard.

What really elevates the experience is the Greek owner. He was extremely accommodating, friendly, kind and attentive to the guests needs. In a time of restaurant chains and anonymity, it was nice to actually see the person behind the vision, caring so much about what he does.

We tried a few dishes during our stay including the hummus, moussaka, as well as the lamb gyros. All the food was extremely well prepared, delicious and of good portion sizes. We particularly liked the lamb gyos with the tzatziki sauce and will most definitely be going back to get more of that!

For refreshments, they offer a variety of drinks for all tastes, we were especially fond of the traditional yogurt drinks, definitely worth a try when you can make it there.

Prices overall were quite reasonable for the portion sizes and in keeping with restaurant prices in the area.

One of the final points which elevated the evening was the kind gesture from the owner to provide complimentary Greek style doughnuts and limoncello. The doughnuts were delicious and worth coming back for by themselves.

Overall, from my experience, if you are looking for an authentic and delicious Greek restaurant in Bali, I would definitely recommend El Greco. For me personally, you will probably find me back there really soon!
