Booster Vaccine Will be Mandatory for Public Activities

Booster Vaccine Will be Mandatory for Public Activities – Booster shots would be required for travel and access to public areas in two weeks’ time. Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, the coordinating minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment has stated, “I therefore kindly request that everyone who has not yet obtained the full (second) and booster (third) vaccinations do so right away at the offered vaccination booths.”

This decision was taken on Monday at a small cabinet meeting at Jakarta’s Merdeka Palace, presided over by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). According to the website of the Health Ministry, the low national booster coverage of 24.55 percent as of 4th July 2022, served as the impetus for the policy’s implementation.

In addition, only 24.6% of the 1.9 million people who visit malls daily on average have had the booster shot, according to data from the ministry’s PeduliLindungi application. Although the first serosurvey revealed that around 88 percent and the second serosurvey discovered that 99.2 percent of Indonesia residents had antibodies against the virus, due to the introduction of Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5, the number of additional daily COVID-19 cases has continued to rise, and the low booster vaccine coverage has raised questions.

To assist the public in getting vaccinated, vaccination booths at airports, train stations, bus stops, and shopping malls will also be reopened. The military, police, and municipal governments have also been requested by the government to support the neighborhood and restart attempts to find COVID-19 cases. The actions are being taken as a preventative strategy to avoid an increase in cases in the future.

The government also upheld the limits on Java-Bali public activities (PPKM) for the next few weeks. The outcome of the evaluation meeting chaired by the President will decide the length of the enforcement. Furthermore, controlling the pandemic in Indonesia so far has relied heavily on public participation.
