A foreign tourist was injured while jogging on the pedestrian path at Kuta Beach, Badung, Bali, on Wednesday (3 September).
The man reportedly fell after tripping on a damaged section of the path and sustained a serious injury to his leg. Witnesses suspect the tourist may have suffered a fracture.
In a video uploaded to the Detikcom Instagram account, the tourist is seen sitting on the ground while holding his leg in pain. Several bystanders quickly approached to provide assistance before he was taken to hospital.
I Nyoman Arya Arimbawa, Manager of the Kuta Beach Destination, confirmed the accident.
Further confirmation came from the Kuta Beach Water Tourism Destination management, which stated that the foreign tourist had been injured in the fall.
As reported by Balipost, the incident occurred near Popies II at around 4:30 p.m. The foreign tourist sustained an injury to his left knee and was referred to a hospital by Balawista.
Balawista, also known as the Water Tourism Rescue Agency, is a humanitarian organisation responsible for safeguarding tourists in Bali’s water-based destinations. Officials noted that the injured tourist was transported to a hospital, though they were unable to confirm which facility he was admitted to.
Calls for Repair and Safer Facilities
The accident has reignited concern over the state of public infrastructure along Bali’s beaches. According to reports, the Kuta Beach pedestrian path has been damaged for the past three months, with concrete slabs shifting due to large waves.
The uneven surface has created hazards for visitors using the path for exercise or leisure walks.
Bendesa Adat Kuta, I Komang Alit Ardana, explained that his office had already raised the matter with local authorities.
“We have received news that repairs will be carried out soon. I myself have been contacted by the regional secretary, and tomorrow the Badung PUPR will check it out,” Alit Ardana told Detiknews.
The incident highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining public facilities in coastal areas exposed to natural forces such as erosion and high tides.
While temporary repairs have been made in the past, the infrastructure has not withstood repeated wave impact, leading to recurring damage.
Residents and local leaders hope that the upcoming inspections and promised repair work by the Badung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) will provide a more sustainable solution.
In the meantime, visitors are urged to exercise caution and observe warning signs installed near affected areas.
