Russian Tourist Found Dead in Bali Under Suspicious Circumstances

Share:

A Russian tourist, identified as Artem Afonin (25), was discovered dead in a guesthouse on Jalan Merta Sedana, Pengubengan Kangin Neighborhood, Kerobokan Kelod, North Kuta, Bali, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

The discovery of the body, which showed signs of foul play, has shocked both local residents and the guesthouse staff.

The victim’s body was found in a disturbing state, with his head wrapped in plastic and his neck bound with a leather belt. It appeared that Afonin had died at least 12 hours prior to being found.

The alarm was raised when a guesthouse employee, Ahmad Sofyan, became concerned after several unsuccessful attempts to enter the victim’s room.

The day before, Monday (28/4/2025), a guest house employee named Ahmad Sofyan had knocked on the door of the victim’s room at around 3 p.m. to clean the room, but received no answer.

The next day, Tuesday (4/29) at 4 p.m., Ahmad again tried to clean the room, but still received no response.

On the second day of trying to clean the room, Sofyan noticed that the guest’s slippers were still outside, suggesting that the victim had not left.

His suspicions led him to record a video from outside the room window, where he saw the lifeless body. After attempting to open the door unsuccessfully with a spare key, local residents helped break it down, revealing the victim’s grim condition.

Investigations Underway After Shocking Discovery

As reported by TribunBali, Badung Police Public Relations Section, Ipda Putu Sukarma, stated that his party received a report of the discovery of a corpse at around 5:45 p.m.

Officers found various personal items belonging to the victim, including supplements such as Omega 3 Fish Oil, Rhodiola, Creatine Matrix, and other health-related products.

Sexual instruments were also found in the room, raising further questions about the nature of the death.

Although initial findings indicate foul play, the police have yet to confirm whether the Russian tourist was alone during his stay or whether anyone else was involved.

Bruising was evident on the victim’s body, including marks on his shoulders, abdomen, and hands.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of death and the motive behind this tragic incident. The body has been sent to Prof. Ngoerah Hospital for an autopsy.
