Multi-Lane Free Flow Possibly Reduce Congestion Loss

The Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) stated that the contactless toll transaction system or Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) could save more than IDR 4 trillion in traffic congestion.

“Traffic jam losses if you use MLFF up to IDR 4.2 trillion, that is with a calculation of 40 toll roads (toll roads) at auction time it is determined,” said Danang Parikesit, Head of BPJT, in Jakarta on Monday, the 20th of March.

Danang stated that the figure was only temporary and that it could rise again.

“This segment is growing, so the more segments we have, the more benefits we get,” he explained.

According to him, his party has increased the number of toll roads that MLFF will implement from 40 to 71.

“Around last year, there was an auction. So, once again, the benefits are increasing (toll road total), because the initial calculation was only 40 segments, and now it is 71 segments.” He came to a conclusion.

Previously, the PUPR Ministry’s BPJT stated that six toll roads, including Jagorawi, Jakarta-Cikampek, Dalam Kota, Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) including Ulujami-Pondok Aren-Serpong, Bali-Mandara, and Balikpapan-Samarinda, would be tested for MLFF.

BPJT intends to test the transition to a contactless cashless toll transaction system or Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) on the Bali Mandara Toll Road on the 1st of June, 2023.

The Bali Mandara Toll Road was chosen after a discussion process, taking into account that this toll road section is not too congested yet, making it easier to carry out the supervision necessary to ensure that all systems operate properly.

The toll transaction system will be faster with MLFF because users will no longer need to stop to attach their electronic cards, reducing queues at toll gates. Furthermore, MLFF reduces the operational costs of toll collection.
